Old Threads

I’ve had this shirt since my sophmore year of high school.  I remember that because I bought it at Mervyn’s at the Hanford Mall when I ripped my shirt at the skatepark one day.  It was on sale for $6.

Anyway, I’ve had this shirt for over a decade and it looks better than some of the clothes I’ve bought within the last 6 months!

What’s the oldest piece of clothing you own (that you still wear)?

Rocks My Socks

Remember when you were a kid and getting socks for Christmas was the worst thing ever?

I must be getting old.

Because I love it.

Who Irons?

I’m wearing a particularly stubborn shirt today.  It took me a whooping 20 minutes to get it decent for work and honestly, it still looks pretty wrinkled.

All of that ironing time gave me a change to think of this post (I know, sooooo creative…)

Do you iron your clothes?  Or do you have someone else do it?  Or do you just walk around looking wrinkley?

No Shave November: 11.20.08

This is probably an indication of how desperate I am for material (and stats) but here’s another post about my facial hair. Perhaps it’s just an indication of how surprised I am that I can actually grow a beard!

Here’s the update: technically, I’m not really doing No Shave November because 1) I started about a week early–I don’t remember the exact date and 2) I trim– which keeps wifey and the boss-man happy. Still, I’ve grown some respectable facial hair:

Beard Update

Many of you have asked for a beard update (okay, “many” means 2 people) so here you go. It’s been about 2 weeks and I’ve got some reasonable scruff to show for it. People are finally asking if I’m growing a beard (smart alec response) and yesterday Sarah said “I kinda like it.” Her birthday is Sunday, so we’ll see if the fur survives the weekend!

Beanie season: morro bay surf style…

Alright… here’s beanie pick #2.   While Sarah and I were leisurely strolling the streets of downtown Morro Bay, I found this snappy visor beanie (I think it was in Shark’s Grin Tourist Trap Surf Shop & Bait Store) from Dakine.  I’ve always liked Dakine’s line of snowboarding accessories, so i figured I’d try it out… and lemme tell you: I look good in it.  So good, that I was attacked by this hungry Barracuda:

Beanie season…

beanie.jpg

I would like to announce the official start of the 07/08 Luke Mundy Beanie-Wearing season. Yes, I realize that it’s currently 71 degrees in Fresno (winter weather in San Diego… oh wait, summer too…) but it was about 50 this morning and felt that was sufficiently chilly to protect my dome with a half-inch of wool.

The beanie displayed above has been my favorite for about 7 years. A good friend bought it for me from a then up-and-coming catalog featuring beautiful, malcontent teens. I tore off that company’s label in a fit of righteous consumer action, leaving me with a few frayed threads (which drive Sarah absolutely crazy).

We’ve been through a lot, Argyle beanie! But I’m afraid it’s time for a new skullcap. So… I’ll be spending this season looking for the perfect beanie.

Any ideas?

Stock pick of the week: v-necks…

Last Thursday I discovered the v-neck t-shirt. Not the undershirt kind. The… over-shirt kind. Target had these amazing stripped beauties on sale for $10. So… obviously I had to pick up two. And what can I say? They’re amazing for the following reasons: 1) rock-stars wear v-neck tees, 2) the notched neck equals extra ventilation in the Fresno heat, and 3) they make your muscles look huge. Case in point:

I look exactly like that guy now. I do. Sarah says so.

Stock pick of the week: dvs francisco slippers…

Another Monday, another fabulous week of purchasing madness…

This weekend I had the opportunity of attending a wedding in the beautiful town of Lakeport, CA. About 3/4 through our scenic drive up I5, I turned to Sarah with a stunning realization: I had left my dress shoes at home. Usually, this wouldn’t be much of a problem–find the nearest mall and buy some reasonable shoes. Unfortunately for me, the nearest mall was… I don’t know… not near.

Luckily, I found a nice store in downtown Lakeport and picked up these sweet babies: the DVS Francisco black corduroy slipper. Here’s what makes this the hottest wedding shoe of 2007:

-It’s the only shoe that garners remarks like, “wow, Luke, I think it’s awesome that you’d wear THOSE shoes to a wedding!”

-No tread = superior moonwalking skills on any surface.

-No tread = lots of falling on stairs = entertainment for your friends.

-Thick, industrial-grade corduroy ensures that your feet will sweat like a Russian bathhouse.

-And of course, the greatest reason is that they’re not dress shoes.

So, please, do yourself a favor and buy these amazing kicks.

Stock pick of the week: linen pants…

Yes. Our stock pick for the week is linen pants. And whoever makes them(Cambodia, according to the tag on mine.) For those of you who don’t know (I didn’t), linen is an ancient fabric made from flax seed. It’s known for it’s light, breezy consitancy, it’s strength and rigidity, and it’s wicking properties. These characteristics make it ideal for use in arid climates such as Israel, India, and Fresno. In fact, the priests of ancient Israel wore linen clothing as they ministered (running around a blazing altar is a HOT job!)

Anyway, I’ve been wanting to trade out my thick, heavy chinos for a pair of linen pants for quite some time now, but I couldn’t find anything for less than $70. Imagine my joy when Sarah and I entered Old Navy yesterday to find linen pants… on sale… for $20. Amazing.

So now I get to sit at my desk, imagining I’m sipping coffee in a Moroccan bazar, stylishly unaffected by the sweltering heat. So, in closing… buy linen pants stock… or just the pants.
