Little Prayers

I know God answers prayer. Like, big prayers. Like, fire-from-heaven, Lazerus-come-forth type prayers.

I tend to forget that He cares about small stuff too. Like the headache-that-won’t-go-away, help-me-in-this-meeting sort of stuff.

Today I prayed for something small. I prayed that someone would call me back and that the conversation would go well. Easy. And it happened. Pretty much immediately.

I trust God to work in the big things of life, but I’m finding that it’s these little things that propel my faith forward. It’s these details that show me how much He loves me and make me love Him in return.

Solving Problems

Wifey lost an important document today and was very frustrated looking for it. I told her she should pray about finding it. She did. And she found it (someplace she had already looked).

Later in the evening, I was trying to fix some issues I was having with our church website. I spent 3 hours looking through files and code and didn’t get anywhere. Frustrating, right? Not once did I think to pray for some wisdom in solving the problem.

Just a reminder that it’s easy to have faith when the problems aren’t yours.

(Reminder #2: I’m a big hypocrite)

How Can I Pray For You?

After doing some reading today I’m feeling encouraged to be more intentional about prayer in 2009. I don’t create enough opportunities to spend time praying for friends, family, and ministries I support. It’s a habit I’d like to develop.

So, I’d like to pray for you. What’s one thing you’d like to see God do in your life in 2009?

Arthritic Knees

My friend Karen posted something the other day that ministered to me and made me laugh:

I’ve come to the conclusion that as long as you’ve had a vibrant prayer life, I wouldn’t think it all bad to have arthritic knees.

RVC Prayer (5 of 5)

Things we’re praying about at River Valley Church:

  • RVC Youth :: Pray that our youth will continue to have love and respect for their peers as they grow to maturity in Christ.
  • RVC Kids :: Pray that our kids will begin to know, love, and follow God.

RVC Prayer (4 of 5)

Some of the prayers we’re asking for at River Valley Church:

  • RVC Families :: Pray that parents would be empowered to be leaders of God’s truth in their households.  (Our first church-wide family night is happening this Sunday.  Pray that it would be a time that families learn the value of spending time together and leading spiritually.)
  • RVC Young Adults :: Pray that God will give them wisdom as they face decisions about their identity and their future.  (We’re launching a new bible study for college/young adults tonight!  Pray for Kevin and Tera Hall as they lead)

RVC Prayer (2 of 5)

Some prayer requests for our church this week:

  • Schools that feed into Clovis North :: Pray for the staff and students from the middle and elementary schools in our area.
  • Surrounding Neighborhoods :: Pray that RVC can meet the spiritual needs of the people in the community.  (We’re located in Northeast Fresno, an area that is growing rapidly with many young families)

RVC Prayer (1 of 5)

The last Saturday, River Valley Church hosted a time of prayer at Clovis North High School.  We’re constantly aware of the need to lift up our church and community in prayer, to ask for God’s will as we minister.  I’ve decided to take some time this week to share some of the prayer requests we have as a church.  If you’re the praying type, I’d love if you’d remember us this week.

  • River Valley Church :: Pray that we are growing in our walk with God, living in relationship with others and intentionally reaching people
  • Clovis North Staff :: Pray that God will continue to let us find favor with them.  (We meet on the high school campus Sunday mornings)
