I’m reading through the Gospel of Mark, paying special attention to insights for leadership, ministry, and service:
- Jesus used illustrations and examples that His audience would understand. The more I teach, the more I realize that the bulk of my effort needs to go into relating the teaching to my students. (Mark 4:1-9)
- For some reason I always have assumed the parable of the sower only applied to sharing the gospel, but it’s about how we react to all of God’s word! How can we make sure our hearts (and those that we serve) are ready to receive God’s word? (Mark 4:13-20)
- Ministry can put you into some awkward/scary situations! (Mark 5:1-5)
- We can forget that the people we are reaching out to are dealing with spiritual oppression. (Mark 5:6-13)
- Once again, the value of a changed life is incredible! The man who once spent his days mutilating himself in a graveyard now begs to be of service to his Savior. (Mark 5:18-20)
- I wonder how many people in our churches are like this woman, constantly suffering for years and years, yet afraid to come forward and ask for help. (Mark 5:25-29)
- I also wonder about the type of faith that she had. “If I can just touch His robe” seems pretty weird and superstitious to me, but apparently there was something deeper too it. This encourages me not to be so quick in judging the depths of a person’s faith. (Mark 5:28)
- When all is lost… Jesus saves the day! (Mark 5:35-43)
