Stock Pick Of The Week: Mustache Grooming

Welcome to Stock Pick Of The Week, the post that’s neither weekly nor stock-related. It’s actually something I’ve bought/stolen/found recently that I think everyone should experience.

Recently, I purchased a new pair of board shorts. Really, they’re a pick of the week in and of themselves. Great fit, bring yellow and orange. Love them. You can get some at The Laundry Room. I haven’t been swimming yet, but they’ve become my loungewear of choice.

BUT WAIT. As I was lounging in said loungewear, I happened to reach down into the velcro-encased pocket to find a plasticy treasure: a mustache comb. Yes, a comb for your mustache… shaped like a mustache. Truly mind blowing.

So if you see me surfing lounging around town with a well-groomed mustache, now you know why. Go and do likewise. Buy buy buy!

I Want This

This may end up being the most frivolous thing I buy in 2010.

It may also be the best thing to ever come from France.

Dress Up

I’m not big on Halloween. I don’t think you worship Satan if you enjoy the holiday– it’s just not my gig.

So, as a non-Halloween celebrator, I’ve never really done the costume thing. Maybe once as a kid. I was Robin Hood–I think.

Anyway, tonight we’re “going to hang out with some friends” (they call it a Halloween party) and it was strongly suggested that I be in costume.

So at the last minute I came up with this: I am AT&T’s (poor) cellular coverage.

Hopefully I’ll win the geeky creative slacker award!

So what about you?  Costume or no costume?

Dive Trip Day 3

Today was our last day on Catalina Island. We woke up and rushed out the door to finish the last of our open water certification dives. After completing a few required skills, our instructor gave us a handshake– we were certified! We spent the rest of that dive exploring more of the kelp forest. The visability was great and there were a lot of fish out and about– very friendly and curious!

For our first dive as certified divers, we actually split up: Sarah went and explored the shallow kelp forest with a friend and I joined a few guys for a deep water dive. We swam out about a hundred yards and dove down to 100 feet. Honestly, it wasn’t too much different than the other dives we had done– just colder and darker. Mostly we went to say that we’d gone to 100 ft (the limit for recreational divers).

Anyway, we’re headed home right now, cruising up 99. Catalina was beautiful, the company was fun, and the diving was exciting, but we’re ready to be home!

Dive Trip Day 1

Sarah and I are spending the weekend in Avalon on Santa Catalina Island getting our open water scuba certification. We’re having a great time and looking forward to getting into the water today! Yesterday consisted of travel, shopping, and eating. Here are some pictures:

Banana Question

This question has caused many great debates: what end of the banana do you open?

Smog City Roller Grrls Win!!!

Sarah and I visited the local roller derby bout tonight to see our good friend Tiny Tim in his reffing debut

We were joined by our friends Gordon and Tami Hall; Doug, Nicole, Olivia, and Lauren Tucker, Tyler Hanson, and my sister and her boyfriend.

The bout was awesome!  I know, I know… roller derby?  How lame does that sound?  But it’s pretty rad to see how hard these grrls fight to win.  They put in a TON of work and take some hard hits out on the track.  We love being a part of the crowd and supporting our Smog City Rollers!

Here’s our star, Betty Rocker.  She’s so fast cameras can’t catch her!

We’re Still Here!

Yes, I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted.

I’m sure you’ve all missed me.

But I’ve been busy.

So I’ll leave you with this:

Mundys and Minnie.  Good times were had.

Creative Chaos: Wacky Weekend

Last Sunday I did my first “Wacky Weekend.”  Now, those of you who are involved “behind the scenes” at your church are thinking isn’t every weekend wacky?

Wacky Weekend happens every 6th Sunday as we take time to look back over the past 5 weeks of teaching, quizing students on what they’ve learned, celebrating the things that God’s showing us, and generally just having a good time.

Our children’s ministry has been doing this for awhile, but this last week was the first time that RVC Youth joined in on the same schedule.

It went great.  The students really enjoyed it, our volunteers got to take a week “off,” and I got the benefit of learning how much our students retain.  They’ve learned alot over the last 5 weeks and I’m proud of them!

Does your youth group/children’s ministry/bible study do anything to review?  to have fun?  to celebrate?
