Today was our last day on Catalina Island. We woke up and rushed out the door to finish the last of our open water certification dives. After completing a few required skills, our instructor gave us a handshake– we were certified! We spent the rest of that dive exploring more of the kelp forest. The visability was great and there were a lot of fish out and about– very friendly and curious!
For our first dive as certified divers, we actually split up: Sarah went and explored the shallow kelp forest with a friend and I joined a few guys for a deep water dive. We swam out about a hundred yards and dove down to 100 feet. Honestly, it wasn’t too much different than the other dives we had done– just colder and darker. Mostly we went to say that we’d gone to 100 ft (the limit for recreational divers).
Anyway, we’re headed home right now, cruising up 99. Catalina was beautiful, the company was fun, and the diving was exciting, but we’re ready to be home!
